Perceptive, passionate, and daring thoughts and feelings about our difficult times.
Looking at oranges on a tree,
I wonder if they are as sweet as they are pretty,
And why we don’t smile when we’re dressed up.

The governor ventures into his backyard.
Hands cold,
He reaches for an orange.
Slices it.
Turns toward work,
Mouth tingling with the short sweetness of power.

Bearing smudge pots for the soul.
