Wedding day

Married in park.
In view of capitol.
Knowing God’s love is law.

Waging peace

Another year of heart break
I lust over winter oranges
Peaceful and promising in the fog.

Vision

Between Vietnam and Korean memorials,
Raise a statue of Socrates.
Standing. Speaking.
Challenging us to
Describe my city fighting a war worthy of her.

Vietnam memorial

Woman with son says:
Stand in front of the roses so I can take your picture.
Hurrying past the roses he points:
I want to see the grenade.

Capitol park

A great place for a pool.
Lined with orange trees.
Capitol in background.
Maxfield Parrish beauties distant as the sun.

Troubling

Late winter sun makes brick bathroom look pretty.
Tempting you to touch. Linger. Expand your peace.
But you know better.

Sweet and pretty

Looking at oranges on a tree,
I wonder if they are as sweet as they are pretty,
And why we don’t smile when we’re dressed up.

Summer evening at the capitol

Compelled to linger,
Admire beauty,
Marvel at inspiring architecture,

One realizes one has to go, but everything’s closed.

So you leave.
Unfree.
Full of pee.

Stepping up to the Capitol

Big beautiful doors fill you with awe.
Like you’re visiting a king or queen, or lover.
Touch one.
Run your hand along its’ wood.
Smell it.
Then gently push.
Entering like royalty or an expected lover.

Spring night

Night air laden with orange blossoms,
Bicyclists fill with lust.
Pedaling aimlessly.
Longing for someone’s fragrance.
