Candlestick Park

They complained about the wind.
Willie said it isn’t hot.
They pissed and moaned and griped.
Willie told ’em: Learn to win with what you got.

Potrero Hill

Balmy mornings
Kids look to East Bay
Dreaming of sultry greatness
Playing ball in St. Louis, Cincinnati.

As adults
They walk to the west side
See the peaks
Fog thick and still behind them
Wondering if it’s too late to be majestic
Knowing they might never be at peace.

Big rec

Great outfielders feel free here.

Plenty of room to run.

Track down your prey.

Show off your big gun.

Great expectations

In the old days when they drank so much
Their dreams were that much bigger.
It must have been hard to stop
Finding out they were no big leaguer.

The outfielders

Ty and Wahoo Sam,
Struggled to be the man.
Sam had more power.
Ty burst into flower,
Blooming all over the place.
The one we dream about today.

Class struggle

Matty showed the working stiffs
You could be rich and tough.
They couldn’t get any hits.
He threw murderous stuff.
