Unabashed

When fans saw Ruth unleash his power
They erupted with a roar.

Never being allowed to flower
They clamored for more.

Great expectations

In the old days when they drank so much
Their dreams were that much bigger.
It must have been hard to stop
Finding out they were no big leaguer.

Cornelius McGillicuddy

Connie Mack created his name to fit in the box score.
Like an immigrant’s change of spelling when he got to America’s shore.

1915

Did you ever see the photo of Cobb
At Fenway walking through the mob
In a craze because he through his bat at Mays?

After the game the crowd swarmed the field.
Ty didn’t yield.
They feared to touch him like he was a god.

1900’s

Fans in the old days,
Always ready to brawl.
Proud and defiant,
Like graffiti on a wall.
